Global sports provider ELEVEN SPORTS has added to its rights portfolio in Belgium with the acquisition of LIVE and EXCLUSIVE rights to the 2017/18 PDC World Darts Championship, the 2018 PDC World Cup of Darts and the Champion of Champions Snooker tournament which is taking place this week in the UK.
All three events will be available to ELEVEN SPORTS subscribers on TV, online, and on mobile via the ELEVEN SPORTS platform.
“We are very pleased to extend our partnership with Matchroom Sport to bring more premium darts action – a sport that is popular locally in Belgium – to fans across the country. We are also thrilled to grow our portfolio by adding a leading Snooker tournament for the first time in this market,” said Danny Menken, Group Managing Director, ELEVEN SPORTS. “These additions signify more great progress for ELEVEN SPORTS, aligned to our strategy to meet un-met demand and make locally relevant, underserved content available for domestic fans in ways they want to consume it.”
The acquisition of the leading darts events is an extension of the successful partnership which saw ELEVEN SPORTS show the previous editions of the same tournaments.
The PDC World Darts Championship, which is seen as one of the most prestigious tournaments on the circuit, will run from 14 December 2017 – 1 January 2018 at London’s Alexandra Palace. The Championship has a rich history of past winners including 14-time winner Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor from England and two-time winner and reigning champion Michael Van Gerwen from the Netherlands.
Belgian darts fans will hope brothers Kim and Ronny Huybrechts can qualify for the tournament later this year, alongside youngster Dimitri Van den Bergh.
ELEVEN SPORTS will show 54 LIVE hours of the Champion of Champions Snooker tournament which brings together sixteen of the world’s best players including World Number One, Mark Selby, fan favourite and five-time World Champion, Ronnie O’Sullivan, and Belgian native, Luca Brecel, providing a local flavour for domestic viewers.
ELEVEN SPORTS is the only sports service to be available in every household in Belgium and is available on Proximus, Telenet, VOO, SFR, Orange and Scarlet TV and TV VLAANDEREN / TÉLÉSAT.
